MTV’s Jersey Shore show may have dominated the winter TV ratings and even created a cult following for Snooki’s poof, but there’s an Anti-Jersey Shore revolution brewing. A new dress code sign outside of the New Orleans club and lounge Republic, first posted on FailBlog, states the bar’s intolerance of Jersey Shore fashion—cleverly worded, of course. This image then went viral via Twitter and Facebook as people who watched the show, but hated the style, found it an apt expression of their own opinion. It says:

IF IT’S ON THE JERSEY SHORE,
IT’S NOT COMING THROUGH THE DOOR.

But that’s not all! Read in between the lines to see that Republic has named specific brands that are unwelcome at the live music venue: Affliction, Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier. And a final “NO EXCEPTIONS,” drives home the point. Apparently not “every man is king,” as the club’s mantra suggests, but only those who leave the Jersey Shore look where it belongs—at the Jersey Shore.

Color me pessimistic, but I’ve always thought Judge Judy was about as real as professional wrestling. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not entertaining and it certainly wasn’t the other day. A friend on Facebook shot me a link to this video from a recent Judge Judy episode that features Kate Levitt, a musician from the experimental band Teeth Mountain. Since IGIF is in-tune with the Baltimore music scene, I was intrigued from the beginning but did not expect to laugh so much. Apparently this dude, Jonathan Coward (Twitter), got wastey faced and started throwing televisions around Levitt’s apartment.. one of them landing on top of and KILLING her cat. The best part comes after Judge Judy delivers her verdict and they interview the two of them outside the court room (6:45 mark) – some true comedic gems there.

How to Make Skittles Vodka

By placing Skittles candies in a bottle of vodka for a day or two, you can make a tasty, sugary infusion that’s a perfect change of pace.

Steps

Single Serving (25mL Shot)

1. Separate the colors of Skittles that you want to flavor the vodka with. Many people choose to leave out the green, which is lime if you are using original Skittles, and purple, which is grape in the original style, as they can create a weird taste combination or a less than appealing color for the final product, but you can put them in if you want. Or, if you don’t mind mixing flavors, skip this step.
2. Add six Skittles to 25ml of vodka. Keep swirling the mixture until the Skittles are almost completely dissolved. Note that the ratio of Skittles to vodka varies from recipe to recipe, you can experiment to find your preferred mix.
3. Filter out the remaining Skittle “insides”. With single servings like this, you can decide which flavor(s) you like best and proceed to making bottles, if you desire.

Bottles

1. Pour out some vodka from a bottle to make room for Skittles.
2. Separate the Skittles.
3. Add the Skittles (20-25 per 350 mL).
4. Let the mixture sit for a day or two. Shake occasionally so the flavor mixes well.
5. Strain out the Skittles using a filter, such as a paper coffee filter or a clean t-shirt.
6. Refrigerate overnight.

Tips

• Another approach is to buy five bottles of vodka and five bags of Skittles. Then separate the candy and use one flavor for each bottle. (Or get four bottles and an empty, to allow room for the skittles.)
• The lime green Skittles add a sourness to the drink, so if you want one that’s sweet, leave the green ones out and add them to their own bottle for a sour lime vodka.
• If using a t-shirt to strain, be sure fabric softener or a dryer sheet had not been used with it, lest you get some extra (unwanted) flavoring.
• Start with small amount of vodka and Skittles at first to experiment which combination of taste suits you best. You can carry this out with larger amount of vodka and Skittles once you have decided that you enjoy the taste.

Warnings

• Drink responsibly. Never drink and drive. Know your limits, and do not drink to the extent of intoxication.

Things You’ll Need

• A handle (1.75 liters, about a half gallon) of vodka per bag of Skittles
• A large bag of Skittles candy (the “movie size” bag)
• Each handle of vodka (1.75 liters, about a half gallon) requires a large bag worth of Skittles, so if you plan on doing only one flavor for a flavorful vodka, you’ll have to buy 5 large bags of Skittles.
• Coffee filter or extremely clean tee shirt
• Large funnel or strainer to hold filter
